Wow - been away for a long time. Just so much stuff going on that does not really matter I guess. Kids out of school, working my ass of for a bunch of jackholes, etc.. I have been tired and unhappy with work and shit for a while. Vacation in August cannot come fast enough.

Riding has been my only source of stress relief - I am so thankful I have that. It really makes a difference. Plus, My 34 shorts will fall off me without a belt and I am about 182 right now - still pushing for 175 and I will be happy.

Riding has been good - DK and I can just shy of averaging 20 mph for a 46 mile ride. It was tough but it's cool to know I can do it - feel like I bumped up another small level.

I have kick ass farmer tan lines now!!!!!

computer died - using work laptop now - I think it is the heat sync on the chip - open up the case and the damn thing fell out!! not good - I worked on it a little and it seems to run if I keep the PC on it's side (so the heat synch cant fall off.. . hahhahhaa)

Maddie goes to her Art Express next Saturday for 5 days.. I think she is going to have the time of her life there.

Bro in law, Sis in law and nephew were down for a few days - her for a follow up on her back surgery and plus it will probably be our last time to see him - he should be getting deployed at the end of the month to Iraq. As it is now, they will be the force left behind as others start to pull out and go home - I really hope the violence does not escalate.. I am a bit worried for him due to that.

Neighbor kid gets back in November so he only has a few months to go then he is getting married in January. Wrider , he is 20 why do so many military get married so young???

MAMA - HAPPY BIRTHDAY and welcome to the 40 CLUB!!!! Dont sweat it - age is mental, not physical.... just go with it and have fum. I'll buy you a cup of coffee one day for your b-day if I ever see ya in person!

As soon as the PC crap gets sorted etc. I will post some 4th pics etc.

Not much here - just been working and laying low. I have a couple days off next week and I am dying for them - cant wait.

DK, AVman and I signed up for the Amtrak Century on Sept 12. I can't wait. If I can do a 100 mile bike ride - I can do anything!!! It feels good to have a goal. I had not realized how long it has been since I really had one - i know that is something I need to keep doing - life can pass you by without one it seems.

House is a mess. Wifey likes to post school clean the girls rooms - move the furniture around etc. but she has no method and all madness - Jillly's room is a mess but I know in a few days all will be good but good god woman - do one section at a time!!!! hahahahha

Girls both did really good in school. I am proud of both of them. I had two nieces graduate 8th grade and one got perfect attendance for two years - and at this school it means not missing one period - that is amazing although she did get sent to school feelin pretty crappy.. hahhha

My oldest niece wants to be a doctor/pediatrician/psycho/nurse etc. and got accepted into a program at UCLA (started by Patch Adams himself) where for 10 days they follow around doctors, watch surgeries etc.. This is way cool for her - she is smart as chit and all the blood and stuff has no effect on her. In her high school anatomy class they dissected a cat and watch a vasectomy. She saved photo of the cut up cat on her phone.

It really does. I have been in some meetings where I really see how sucky a lot of mgmt is. It's pathetic and it really wears you down. Hour and a half meeting starting at 4 pm. I wanted to run out of there screaming!! I am mentally done. Good thing I have Friday off - nice 50 mile bike ride will clear the head and heart.

Friday is also Fun Day at good ole Woodsboro Elementary so I am sure I will be having a BLAST with all the kids!!!

Next week is the last week of school - I want the summer off to!!!

Got a new car - but not like that. Father in law bought a 2002 Land Rover Discovery for Costa Rica (he has a place there) He got it for $2800 as it has 140k miles. Turns out to import it, they charge taxes on the high blue - not what he got it for. So since the wifey's sister already has a 7 passenger car (durango) he got it fixed and gave it to us and we will take my super cool Isuzu Rodeo up to her sister in WA in August. It is still in great shape - feels weird to drive it but the girls LOVE it, especially Jilly as the have little seats in the very back.

Wifey has been crankin out some work on personal quilts so I will have many for sale for the holidays (I hope)

Got some good news at work today - followed by the "it figures" news but that is typical at Merc. As of now, no raises bonuses etc.. that is for at least a year I am sure but today I find out that with some changes I am being made the lead BA for all things Mercury First (our point of sale program) since I know the system better and basically do that job anyways. Of course, at this time the increase in workload and responsibility comes with a big fat NOTHING! But with the way things are, I did not see it prudent to turn it down.. I hope to make them pay at a later date.

So I take the good, I take the bad I take them both and there you have the facts of life @ MERC!!!

Monday was Jilly's big number 8 on the b-day scale. She got some nice gifts but I swear her favorite was her 6 pack of orange tic tacs!!!

Glad the warm days are here - time to get in more bike rides. Took our new and only female rider Robbin up a decent climb yesterday - she indicated that during the climb which beat her to death she was think the phrase "F@&* you guys!!!" over and over. HAHAHHA - totally worth it. But to her credit - it was slow but she never stopped pedaling and climbed the whole thing.

Only heard part of the new Linkin Park from the new Transformers movie - it's OK from what I heard - nothing to get excited about.

Work has been crap - so many stupid people who really get on your nerves when times get rough and just make things worse - I totally want to get sick right now....hhahah

All the shows are ending but that means some new one for the summer -Monk, Burn Notice and True Blood on HBO so much to watch this summer.

First off - HAPPY MOTHER's DAY to all you mom's out there. Hope it was a good one. Got the wifey a nice Garmin GPS. She gets lost way to often.. hahaha she loved it.

I guess this was my long sabbatical from blogging - been tired, busy and just not in the mood. The only big thing since my last post was a week in FL. Flew to Tampa Intl and then crossed the bridge into Clearwater. The weather was great for us and the trip was not as bad as we thought.. FL people can be tough....but we survived.

Here is a nice photo of my crazy daughter. She heard talk how I used to wanna grow my goatee long and braid it so she got the materials etc (all on her own) and had the wifey braid it for her. She is creative and crazy all at the same time.

Back from SLC

Sup y'all.. have the day off which is nice. Got back yesterday from a bike ride in Salt Lake City with AVman and T-MAY. We had a great time. Long ass drive but AVman has 60 gig of music that spanned the music spectrum - old stuff new stuff and everything in between. That made the drive go by faster and was fun as shit!.

We stopped in southern Utah and I saw a real Big Love girl at a gas station market. She had the old style dress and hair just like in the show. She must have noticed me staring at her cause when she came out - she ran to her car. hahahaha

The area is very beautiful and the ride through SLC was the most scenic ride I have ever done.

The ride started at 6 am at the University. It was cold as all git out. The start was only 4 miles away so we figured it would be a nice warm up. Little did we know that there was a climb up to the start - a big one. We were the only people there that we saw that rode their bike there. Stupid Californians.. hahahaa

The ride itself was a blast. About 1500 riders so you always got to ride in a pack - pass lots of people etc. All the streets were closed (due to the marathon) so there was no stopping the whole way which is way cool. AVman and I had a good ride the whole way. The finish was in the downtown area and riding through those streets with all the big buildings and stuff was just awesome.. made you feel like a real pro!!!!

Big thanks for T-MAY (merc employee) for the idea to go and to AVman for letting us use his truck. We are definitely in for next year!!

BTW: did you know in SLC at some street crossing with no lights, they have signs reminding you to look both ways and to grab a orange flag from the basket on the pole to make you more visible.... and... no one steals the flags!!! They were everywhere - all full. what is this world coming to?? hahahha

Finally - get the new Silversun Pickups CD - best of the year so far for me - it's fantastic!!!

So it seems all my blog friends now twitter or so the Wrider tells me. I told her I will sign up so I will - be forewarned - it is blocked at work and I have not blackberry etc.. so don't expect to much.

Wed was 14 years with the wifey.. it has been the roller coaster as described in the movie Parenthood but we are still here so that says something. The movie theater by our house shows an old classic movie once a month and this month on our actual anniversary, they showed Gigi (one of her all time favorites) . Of course being a normal guy - I can't stand this movie (never saw it but it was a musical) but I sucked it up and took her anyways. She loved it of course and seeing on the big screen was a treat for her. I only slept for a little I swear!!!

So since I am going to try Twitter, one of you needs to try road biking!! hahahaha - Robbin at work did spin classes for a while but we got her to get a bike and she has started to ride with us. She did 31 miles yesterday (her pace not ours - gotta lay that out there so I don't lose my manliness!!!)) and that was awesome.

The week I did the big 66 mile ride I ended up doing about 114 miles in 7 days. Thighs were sore but I felt really good - hope to keep that chit up if I can.

Did you check out Parks and Recreation last night?? Looks like a keeper - funny as chit!!!

Big Ride is Done - 66 total miles

Today was the big ride day - Spring Metric Century. Man oh man what a tough ride. Easily 50% harder than any ride I have ever done, but it was totally fun. I have never pushed myself that hard before and it feels great to accomplish it. Minus the time at the rest stops, total riding time was just under 4 hours.

It was me, DK and AVman. The ride started in Yorba Park across from my house. We went down the river trail in to Orange than into our first climbs in Villa Park. Those were not to bad and we were fresh. We got down to Tustin Ranch for the first break. We all felt good. From there was the long stretch down to Margarite Pkwy/Los Alisos Blvd near Mission Viejo then the massive climb on El Toro Road all the way back to Santiago Blvd and Jamboree to the next break. Wrider. I know you go to Cooks Corner. I know you go South from where you live to get there. We had to climb that going north form Cooks Corner. We climbed about 2950 feet in 14 miles. The most gnarly thing I have ever done. I gotta say were all good up to that point but DK was on it today and dropped us like a bad habit on the hill. His ride was phenomenal today. I was really impressed. After than, just 11.5 miles back to the park. Big props to AVman also - this was by far his biggest ride and he motored through great.

Fun/Scary parts:

After the big El Toro road climb hit 40 mph going down the hill. Totally fun but there was a big crosswind and the bike was wobbling some, that got a little scary - totally had to use the brakes and bring it down to a respectable low to mid 30's.

At about mile 58 we had recovered due the flats, small down hill and had a tail wind. We were hitting 23/24 mph for a little while. Totally stoked we could hit that after that many miles

Finally about .25 miles to go, riding good into the park - BIG CRAMP IN MY THIGH!!! Oh man that was not good... but I saved it before it got to bad and motored to the finish.

I feel really good to accomplish that big ride and the big hills and so happy to do it with good friends.

Finally song of the blog. This one is different. Flipping channels and saw this on LOGO. This is the channel for gays and lesbians. Gotta say these lesbians created a rockin jam!!! Chicks are making out in this vid. Warning if the kids are around just in case

Staying the course

Hey yokels - not much new going on here. Still have some junk in the lungs so off to the doctor tomorrow. I hate going to the doctor. I am one of those typical guys who waits until total misery sets in. I have no idea why but I always do it. The only thing getting me to go this time is the ride on Saturday. Got 62 miles to do and I need to breathe. I will be telling the doc "you need to clear me up - I got some miles to do" I think that way he will give me the super secret good stuff. Who knows maybe it will contain some EPO or CERA in it. That would be nice.

Not much new on the home front. Got one side of my additional rafters done. Getting a shed so gotta build that soon too. We need space and our backyard is so small, it is not a playground for the kids so I figure why not use the space. This will give me more space in the garage which means the quilt overload of stuff in the bedroom can move on out. I was never big into home repair but I am starting to like some of it. Electrical - NO - but I love working with wood (now I know how wrider and mama feel) hahhahahahaha..

Got a new song by one of my favorite guys - Pete Yorn. I know Mama will like this one alot.

Black Monday

Sorry I was away for so long again... lots going on. Sadly, the title refers to Merc's first ever real mass layoff. Memo went out at 2 pm on Monday saying between 2 and 3 all who are being laid off will be advised. That was a frickin looooong hour. I am happy to say I am still gainfully employed but the company laid off over 300 nationwide from what I heard. All departments - mostly the business units but IT took about a 40 person hit. All of my good friends made it except one - Kathy - aka Bella Luna. That one caught us all off guard. I fell bad for her but she is already hitting the market and I know she will get something soon.

The severance was said to be really good - 2 months all paid including insurance plus a week for every year they were there.

It was a sad day at Merc, yesterday was too.. Seeing the empty desk of Bella Luna does not make for happy times.

Audio - the only guys you might know who got laid off are Vitas in sys admin and Jim Banes. I am not sure about Jim but Vitas - there is no way this guy should have gone. Had to be personal, Sadly Audio - your woman who is despised my most also made it. Well you know what they say, it's not who you know it who you blow!! hahahhaa

What else... well the wifey is going to AZ for a quilt show for a few days so ladies - I am a free man (kids can handle themselves) Time to PAR-TAY!!

Maddie had a really nice school performance. Need to get the video off the DVD player to the PC. Our PC is old and does not have a DVD drive so I need to rip it at work if I can and get it here. If and when I can I will post a song. I was very impressed by this group of 7th and 8th grade kids.

Left work at lunch Thursday, rode my bike home and stayed sick.... the congestion was pretty bad. My eyes would tear from the pressure (it has nothing to do with those darn Lifetime movies)

I think tonight I am finally feeling like I have won the battle.

Girl Scout cookies are in. Got a ton to deliver to work tomorrow. That is the worst part. Delivery.

Took the girls to see Coraline on Sunday. I liked it. Very interesting and original movie.

Maddie got her acceptance letter for Arts-X-Press which is a musical program for kids run through The Pacific Symphony. She was ecstatic beyond words. She had to apply and write an essay on why she wanted to attend plus attach all of her musical accomplishments. I am so proud and happy for her. Now we gotta say and pay.. it's not free.. hahahahaha but it will be totally worth it for her. It as week in July at either UCI or Concordia in Costa Mesa. They stay in the dorms and everything. Another week - work still going - I am not worried at all about lay-off's at this point. They have given me a lot to do in the upcoming months. I will take that as a good sign.

Maddie got to play at Disneyland on Wed. for school orchestra - then play the rest of the day. Very cool and it was only the advanced kids. Nice reward for them for their hard work

RACE TOMORROW!!!! Enough said!

Got a Linked In invite from our VP of Applications - of course I accepted - we also found out he used to road bike alot. DK, VP and I had a nice little chat about riding and as he left and got out of earshot I said - annnnndd I'm not getting laid off. Everyone, and I mean everyone AVman. laughed.

Tired of Drywall

what up folks?? sorry I've been away but I have been soooo busy with garage. We finally finished all the drywall then I spent a weekend sanding - the ceiling. Man that really sucks. Then I had to primer the ceiling - man that sucks and then the father in law - who did so much for me decided to dry wall the rest of his garage so I helped with his ceiling this Saturday and what do you know- killed my neck. I have been looking up for a week straight and it finally got me. I could not turn my head left or right to save my life. Today is much better but it is still there. Drywalling sucks!!!

But the garage does look really nice!!!

Merc building guy Rob got a road bike and road with Justin and I on Saturday morning. He did pretty good. We took him on a short 22 mile ride. Now DK was not there so I ended up doing the work on the way back with the headwind. Nothing beats drafting I tell ya.

Work is still going - no layoffs... yet. No one cares anymore. The rumors have been crazy but now they have died - what you gonna do??? I am done worrying about it.

I am doing some planning so I just need a few things and I will have a 2009 version of my blog. Maybe in the next two weeks I can get it done.

Run of bad luck

My last three bike rides have not been the best to. Flat on Tuesday, Flat coming home from work o Friday and today, on a great ride with DK and AVman, at mile 38, I blow a spoke in the rear wheel. Now due to the massive force generated by my thick muscular thighs, it puts a bend in my rim that did not allow me to keep riding. Thank God for cell phones and my pops who picked us up. Now I might have to re-spoke my whole rim and true it up.. money money money... just cannot have enough these days.

Almost done dry walling the garage. Father in Law has been kicking some but when I am not there and I have learned some good things from him. Sore as hell as I forgot how much it hurts to put dry wall on a ceiling. Man I am sore - no desire to raise my arms above my head that is for sure.

Mama in 4 inch heel boots huh???? Where are the photos of that???? Bring them on!!!!

Hey sorry I have not blogged for a while - not sure why.

I rode my bike to work last Friday - was not raining at my house - but rained about half way to work and then on the way home I looked - some blue patchy sky - got about 2 miles from home and got drenched - I hate the weatherman!! Oh and Wrider, Weather.com was not even close either - and they are the weather channel people right?? they suck!!

I have signed up for two rides so far - March 28th from Yorba Regional (right across the street from my house) and that is a 62 mile - me DK and AVman are in on that one then doing a shorter one on April 18th in Salt Lake CIty with AVman and T_May from Merc. That is more of a guys road trip. I told AVman I would only go if we can have some deep emotional bonding moments like in the movies while discovering more about ourselves and each other to a great indie soundtrack. AVman promised it all would happen!!!

Took Maddie to see Frost/Nixon and that was really good. She really was into it - she likes that stuff like I do. I was worried about the language - like the f-word - until Maddie reminded me she hears that everyday at school. DUH!! I forgot what junior high is like... hahahahaha

More Merc layoff rumors - for sure in U\W and Claims from what we hear - nothing has been said about IT but we have soooo much work to be done - maybe we just drop the consultants and a few of the PM's - sorry Audio - your woman stinks at her job and it is now becoming known to more than just us....

Another week gone by

Another week in the books. Sadly nothing special except maybe the 4 hour premier of 24!!! I love that show and I am so happy it is back.

The garage is drywalled and primered. Whew.. Father in law did some great work. Tomorrow will be spent cleaning and re-organizing - make it all bootiful again. Then it will be off to my sister's for her b-day party. Should be good times.

Didn't today just rock!!! I loved it - perfect day for a bike ride. Rode 48 miles to pop's crib again. It was a perfect day for riding and it really did good for my psyche!! I needed a good day like today. Made it in 2 1/2 hours today and never took a break. I only stopped if I had to - basically waiting for the lights to chance when I was on the streets. I have never gone that far without a break so I am proud of myself.

Tried to make my own cheese tortellini with spinach and panchetta. It was OK. Next time more panchetta, less spinach and get my homemade alfredo sauce a little thicker. (hahahahahha)

I am adding another Merc employee to my blog links. Her blog is only about the cards she makes but maybe we can get her to open up!! It would be nice to get another person writing. Finally, I am totally bummed 103.1 has gone off the air and is now another damn spanish station. WTF!!! Due to ratings they had to stop but are going to keep broadcasting on the internet but that does not help when in the car.

It seems this is my 200th post. Never thought it would get this far. Who knew????

Well not much going on. Work is work. New rule went into effect that we cannot enter more than 40 hours a week into the software for tracking time - regardless of how much time you work. This really pissed off everyone. We know we don't get paid for it - we are salary but we like the fact that it is tracked. I know a few people who have employment lawyer friends who might look into this. Our big issue is how can your track resources and that you are planning for a project right if you don't know people are doing 50 to 60 hours a week to do it. I think this is their plan. Everything is planned to 40 and project hours will only show 40... makes certain people look good in my opinion.

Father in law has been bored so my garage is getting drywalled - which is very cool!! Spent the weekend putting on the primer coat, cleaning up the dust and prepping the last wall. I am so thankful for him - my in-laws are such good people.

Hard to find time to ride so I am trying to ride in every Friday. I really enjoy it.

OK - wifey talked me into seeing the movie Gran Turino and I gotta tell you - a must must must see!!! Eastwood has gotten better in his old age. This movie is phenomenal!!! All I can say is go see it. You will not be disappointed.

Haven't had much time for any new music so I have to disappoint. I will get back into looking for some good tunes.

DOS OH OH NINE

Another year - can't believe it. It is going by so fast these days or so it seems. As usual in my house, I am the only person who can stay awake until midnight. Jilly made it to about 11:40 than crashed. The girls in this house need to man up I tell ya.

So of course I had to start thew New Years off right so I did a nice little 20 mile ride with some hills to climb including climbing this short but steep hill without stopping that has been a nemesis of mine. I was determined to not stop till I got to the top - a good way to start the new year for me.

On that note, here you go, your first gift of 2009:

Yes - me in full winter riding gear. Go ahead, take a few minutes to drink it all in. Don't let the sunshine fool ya, it was cold as all git out that morning. 50 degrees if I was lucky. That is all my new winter gear and stuff Santa got me for Christmas.

Sorry no song of the blog but been busy lately and after "leaving" early yesterday and riding for a few hours got called back to work and did not leave until 10:30 pm. So much for leaving early I guess.

Off to take down the x-mas lights and remember - Anaheim Supercross 2009 opener is tonight - live on Speed TV starting at 7.

There were four of us: Rose, Robbin Bridget and myself. We got up at 6 am, showered, went down for breakfast then got to the office by 8 am EST. Did a little follow up work, and off to the airport. We got there about 10:30 am as Bridget had an 11:45 flight back to North Carolina. Our flight was not until 1:15 pm but we did not want to have them make multiple trips so the rest of us hung out. Bridget's flight left on time but soon started snowing right after she left. About 1/2 hour before our flight is to leave it is snowing like mad and the announce the runways are closed since planes could not brake. Now this aint bad if you want to leave but since our plane that was sitting at the terminal was due for a pilot change and our pilot was circling since he could not land - we were going nowhere. About an hour hour and half in planes could start landing but our pilot was running out of gas and had to go to Manchester to land. So there we still sat, waiting. Finally, they got a pilot and we boarded about 4:15 but then we had to wait to be de-iced etc. We finally took off - in a snow storm about 5 PM EST. Since this is winter and we are going against the jet stream - it was a 6 hour flight to Vegas.

We get to Vegas about 8 PM PST. Of course we missed our original connecting flight so we ask and they send us to a gate about a mile and a half away. We get there, tell them about us and we get put on stand by for the 9:50 PM flight that has been delayed until 11:10 PM. I ask the guy what happens if we dont get on the plane since we are stand by he says "you dont get on" I ask when the next flight after that is and he says "tomorrow morning". The F word may have come out of my mouth a few times.

Luckily as they were boarding we got our boarding passes but since we are the last I get stuck between two stinky guys - one with real bad breath. But I am on my way home so I shut my eyes and wait out the hour.

We finally land at 12:30 am and I get home about 1:30 am which for me is 4:30 am since I started on EST time. I was freaking wiped out but very happy to be home.

NY was great by the way. The people in our office there are the best - had great food and the world's greatest canoli from Augies!!! I am not lying - I think I showed my O face when I ate it. HAHAHAHA

Yes, I have returned. I am way off right now, time wise and stuff, but I did survive. The week was successful for work and it was a pretty fun trip. The NY people are very cool.

Still super tired and stuff but I will report on the action as soon as I feel up to it. It's 7 pm but 10 pm to my body - MUST STAY UP!!!!

Home for the Holidays

That is the plan anyways but the Birdman is heading to upstate NY from the 13th to the 19th for work. One day of flying - one day to chill then work the week getting User Acceptance Testing done then fly back home on Friday.

We are in Albany/Latham and we were told that it was 7 degrees this morning - but hey it made it up to 21 I think. Good Times!!

Nah it should be cool

The Birdman also got another new and free road bike. It was my dad's that he bought in 97 and rode on many long trips. My bro had it but due to his disc problems in his neck and shoulder - it hurts him riding in that position so I got it. Much nicer than the steel beast I have been riding - it is one of the early Carbon/Aluminum frames. It is so much lighter and smoother, etc. I am really liking it - so much easier on my body and it puts more power to the ground - 09 is going to be a good riding year.

Maybe if I get some nice winter riding gear I'll take a nice photo for you all - finally!!

Seems Audio visited the Merc last week but forgot whee his real friends are - in the building down the street - where he last worked - but whatever - I will not cry for you Audio... I just wont!!!

AVman is back riding again - he is serious now, bought all the gear, we are going to get him to ride the Amtrac century with us next Sept. I'll bet he'll do it too!!

Well I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. We did - spent the morning/early afternoon with the wifey's parents and her brother and their 3 kids (all girls and one boy - luckily they all get along great) then spent the rest of the day out at my sisters. well out is across the freeway about minutes but out nonetheless. We had a good time at both houses - a great Thanksgiving. Hope yours were just as good.

Getting ready for another long week. There was a good chance I was going to NY for work on Friday (by NY I mean Albany) but it is probably delayed - maybe until next year.... I thought that would have been fun.

On the bad news, a friend that grew up two houses down from us and whose backyard pool was were we spent every summer day until about 15 was riding his motorcycle home back in North Carolina where he lives and hit a deer crossing the road. He was life flighted to UNC and is in the neuro unit - I found out about a week and half ago and he is now one month into recovery - very slow but he is responding and moving etc. and will be able to talk when they take the trach out. Their family was family to us growing up and I am thankful he will eventually recover.

Well, it was a tough week - put in about 60 hours and of course being salary - no OT. I have been so mentally exhausted... When I get home and stop thinking - I just crash - and it starts again this week... job security can really suck some times.

Well finally had time so I took my camera and rode the river trail towards Green River drive - here are some photos of the fire damage. The first photo was about 1/2 mile from my house - luckily, it never jumped Weir Canyon/Yorba Linda Blvd right there at La Palma. Had it jumped and the park caught on fire - it could have been bad for the birdman.

This is about another half mile down the trail - heading east. The brush and plants here are usually so dense you cannot see past the dirt road - I was amazed at how everything burned.

Crazy fires!!! We are OK - from the north no big deal but from the east we had some spots about a half mile away on fire. The palm trees at the car dealer were burning and the open land across the street was too. There were times it was like an eclipse - then totally red/orange. The people at the end of my block were evacuated - again about half mile down but we were cool.

They actually block off Fairmont at La Palma so the wifey had to park the car down another blocks residential area and then make her way home. Lucky friends of ours live right there and she biked it home. I think they mostly did it as they use Yorba Regional Park as a base for the firefighters and all the trucks and stuff.

We were getting lots of ashes and it was crazy on the breathing - house smell ed like smoke all night but we were never really in danger.

All is well now - nice blue skies

Modeling and America

Not that kind of modeling - Use Case modeling. Just got through 3 days of mastering requirements through Use Case modeling. Yeah it sounds boring but it was not - at least for me - it matters to what I do for a living and I found it interesting to think how we can apply what is stated to our current jobs. We did alot of it but there were additional things we learned that would have been very helpful.

Now for my America stuff - and it is not that they voted for Obama (of course I did not since I have common sense. hahahaha had to throw that in..) and I accept the outcomes of our voting process so it is not due to that....

Two new people on my crap list: Jillian Barberie Reynolds (Fox 11 morning news) and Maya Angelou.

Jillian - who is not a citizen said for the first time she is proud enough of this country to consider being a citizen. WTF?? She has been here for years and and this country has provided her fame, fortune, two husbands, and two children who were born here - none of which she would have had back in Canada and only the election of Obama is good enough makes America good enough for her?? She is a tard and a big problem with this country - bitch should be deported!!

What world has she lived in?? It's not racism why people hate her - it is the damn one word per minute speech pattern - pick up the pace!!!!

Took the girls to the library today and I was looking to get Slaughterhouse 5 - never read it and after seeing a part of a movie about it - decided to read it but it was out. So while I was looking I saw books about code breakers - mostly WW2 - and as I was going through them found a book on code makers.. which you never hear about or see - I found that to be more interesting. So far a good read but when the give examples of how codes work - damn I feel stupid.. hahahah -cool stuff.

Spooktacular

I hope everyone had a spooktacular weekend. Not to bad on this side. The girls and I had a good weekend and they had a lot of fun trick or treating - they went out with a neighbor and their daughter and others. That helped so I could hand out candy. Decent turnout. There was about a 45 minute rush and I was able to get rid of most of the candy - thank god!!

As the Mama mentioned - we met out at Angel Stadium for the Down Syndrome Walk. It is always a lot of fun, the girls like it and it is a good cause. Plus get to actually this person called "I'm the Mama" for real and yes folks she does really exist.

Wifey comes back tomorrow - so much for the crazy bachelor lifestyle... it was good while it lasted!! hahahaha

Finally - one thing to keep in mind - First - VOTE!!!

Send - when it comes to voting I always remember this sentence scribbled on a park bench at Sadlands (if any of you are old time skaters - you will know) and it said "ARE YOU CHANGING WHAT NEEDS TO BE CHANGED OR ARE YOU CHANGING WHAT YOU WANT CHANGED" I always thought that was so intelligent and it reminds me to remove myself from decisions based on my own personal benefit etc. What may be good for you may not be good for all or overall. Now I am not telling anyone what they should believe should be changed, but I think it is a good concept to use.

Well the wife really is gone. She is at a convention in Houston for the quilt shop. I had to get up a 3:45 AM to take her and a fellow employee to Ontario airport - I am tired for sure.

Attended Haggoween this past weekend - very fun as usual but I am so not into gettin drunk anymore - so odd. Sign of gettin old I guess.

So just me and the girls all week - I am sure they are thrilled!! hahahahha

Maddie made advanced orchestra at school - she was very happy about that - thought she did not make at first and was really sad - she needs to open her eyes and read the sheet better.

Went and saw Body of Lies.. it was really good. Leo has done well for himself - he is becoming a nice bad ass.

They have lots of old tractors rebuilt and lots of old engines from super tiny to giant ones all used in the past to make America what it is. They even have some old stream tractors from 1895 running - they are amazing to see. Plus they have a tractor parade, quilt area, black smith area, little booths etc. It is fun to go with my dad - he knows so much about this stuff and how it all works - plus he used some of it (he is old!! hahahaha) The girls even enjoyed themselves.

I gotta say - if I ever get the land and money - I am buying me a tractor!!! TRACTORS RULE!!!

Now onto my dental fun. I went for my last root canal - front tooth - no big deal - you would think. It turns out that during the cleaning of the canal, the tip of one of the tools broke off and the dentist could not get it out. So... I go back the next day for the specialist and she tells me - you have a very long tooth and long root and she is not sure she can just get it out by fishing around. So I have to set up a 2 to 3 hour appointment cause they have to reduce the crown on the tooth even more (make the hole even bigger) and she has to put the crown on right then.........AND even then - no guarantee she can get it out. If they cant, they just leave it as long as it does not hurt - if it does, surgery going through the gums to the top of the tooth to try to get it.....................have I said how much I HATE the dentist.

I totally thought that an appropriate title considering. I gotta say I thought I was being smart yesterday by riding late in the afternoon and since I was going to the in-laws, it would be a kick ass tailwind most of the ride. Well f me if 4 miles in the wind just did not totally switch directions and just work me to crap.... the best laid plans of mice and stupid men right???? hahaha

BTW: Avman is starting to ride also - he has gone a couple time with us - we got him to do 22 miles last Thursday. Give the boy some PROPS!!!

Yes, I went slow for him.............hahaha

Took the girls to see City of Ember and it was not a bad movie.. both girls really loved it but of course there were trailers they liked better. For Jillian - HSM3!! She loves is and cannot wait for for Maddie, Twilight. She is on the last of the 4 books so far and thought it the best trailer ever! hahaha

Gotta love US Customs now. In-laws came back from Costa Rica (if I get a pic of there chalet I will post it - beautiful where it is.) and they landed at midnight. Took an hour and a half to get out of customs and walk down the ramp to where I was. Got home at almost 3 AM. Of course , I still woke up by 7 am.

Holy Crap the Birdman is 40

Cant freakin believe it myself!!!! So bizarre to actually be 40!!!! But I don't feel any different so I guess that is a good thing.

and I also picked up a Under Armour cold gear base layer that really came in handy this morning.

For my gift to myself and so I can convince myself I am not that old - I rode to my dad's this morning - Anaheim Hills to Newport Jetty to Seal Beach, up the river trail there to Cypress and to my dad's in Buena Park - about 43 to 45 miles and I did it on 2 hours and 45 minutes. It was a really nice ride - waves were up at the beach, nice sun and a little cool.

First -Happy B-DAY Wrider- I missed it too.... BAD BLOGGER I AM!!!

Once again, work has been strange - best term I can think of. I am continually not impressed with most (not all) of the new leadership and I think that goes for most of us. I think they impress themselves and put on a good show for many but not for us who really know. My guess and hope is that when the mortgage industry rebounds - they go back. Again - I think we got a few good people but not impressed the with top of this parking structure.

But.. life goes on and the Merc is in good health - the president sent out a letter with all that is going on - explaining why Merc is good. That was the smartest thing that had been done in a while. Kudos to the big guy for that one.

USA again won the MX of Nations!!! This proves we are the best country - EVER!!!!

If your not busy - Gary Unmarried is on tonight - it has potential as does Worst Week - that show is growing on me.

Mama - 600 posts!!! Good god - but then again it is a lot of babble!! hhahahah just kidding. I got a long way to go for that many posts.

Carrie H, is moving to my building next week which is cool - makes our building better - where most of the cool kids hang out now!!

On a funny - don't do it again note - my dad (74) took off for a week and did not tell anyone. I told him he is sol old now he is like a kid - he cannot just take off without letting us know where he is going!! hahah

Bad note, my bro got an infected cyst on his face and next week has to see a plastic surgeon to cut it out to minimize the scarring. It's funny - he has really blond hair but has gone bald - wears boots all the time for work - kinda looks like a white pride guy and now he will probably have some form of a scar on his face. Yes, as you can tell by my little sidebar widget, it is time for a real sport for America to prove they are better than the rest of the world - COMBINED!!!

Yes this weekend is the Motocross Des Nations to be held in England. USA featuring the faster rider on the planet in James Stewart and maybe arguably the second faster rider on the planet in Ryan Villopoto are heavy favorites to win... unless it rains and we all must pray - NO RAIN!!! When it rains in motocross - all bets are off - freakin Estonia could win... I am still debating if I can get up at 5 am this Sunday to watch it on the web (gotta pay but soo worth it) I am gonna try......

Went to back to school night for Maddie - 7th grade.. and what a nice school. I was shocked all the rooms had carpet (that never existing for my entire junior and high school experience) nice walls and lighting and none of the desktops were gouged out... hhahahaa

As you can tell by this posting, I am not in NY and I am not going.. There was alot of "debate" about my going from what I hear but it comes down to two things from what I hear. 1. No one wanted to pay for me out of their budget. 2. With one of our other BA's out on maternity leave, if something were to go wrong while I was there - they did not feel comfortable the other two could resolve it - I am come people's secirity blanket.. The statement "I need my guy here" was said. Of course this will all be forgotten come review time I am sure. Oh well - i hear they are planning for me to go to FL in Nov. but that I dont want to do been there - not a fan of FL nor the agents there. FIGURES I GET THAT ONE!!

Not to much riding this week. As I was riding today, I remembered I had the same "lack of energy" feeling this time last year. I think the old body gets a little tired after a solid 5 months of riding. I estimate I have done over a 1000 miles this year - 90% of that in the last 5 months. So I am gonna ride but less miles and less often for a bit - see if the old body recovers.

We have a solid rumor that IBM is making there way to Merc - and soon. Not sure of their role etc... some people are freaked out but I will wait and see. I think BA's have to be around a lot longer than other IT people and the talk about is is how important we are so.... who knows... I am not worried ... at least for now.. hahahhaa

New shows are stating this week - WOO HOO. Also, if you have HBO - you better be watching True Blood - awesome show - very adult so be warned but excellent so far.

Not a whole lot goin on... that is my reason for lack of blogging - plus I am tired. We are getting close to another big rollout for our product for NY and that means more hours. I may even have to fly out to NY next week for a few days. I think going to NY would be cool but I am not a good flyer.. I will never be relaxed on a plane.. unless I pass out from drinking and they wont allow me to do that anymore.

Saw the movie Michael Clayton on HBO - great. Also if you have HBO - True Blood is really good so far.

From Sunday to Sunday this past week I rode 104 miles. 50, 30 and 24 respectively. Maybe that is why I am so tired!!!

Well - another week goes by... to fast I tell ya....

The girls both started school this week - Maddie the big 7th and Jilly in 2nd. They both are really happy so far - especially Jilly as her teacher lives a few houses down from us. She thinks that is really cool. Maddie is exited about the change of schools and was happy to start learning something.. what can I say - she takes after me.

PUMPKIN SCONES ARE BACK!!!!!

Just watched Live Fast or Die Hard on HBO and what can I say - f'in great....

Got me some new biking shorts - this time I went high end - $80 - but what a difference.. the butt and nut pad is insane - my comfort level is going way up and the compression they provide is easily double of the shorts I was wearing.. I guess my taint is worth the money!!

DK and I are hitting at least 50 miles tomorrow morning.. working are way to do 60 plus and maybe even a 100 mile ride next summer - there is a ALS charity ride in San Luis Obispo we are thinking of doing - that is one of my goals on my list- ride a century

On as sad note - my in-laws had to put down their black lab Lady - she was 14+ with bad arthritis, open sores and starting to go blind. If she walked 100 feet a day it would be amazing. My Father in law could not take her... so the wifey did it for him.... she cried like a baby and my stomach dropped when I looked at the clock - knowing it was done.. She was a fantastic dog and always loving - She was there with all the girls when they were born. She will be missed by all of us..

Sorry I have been away for a spell but really - nothing is going on - aint that sad.... I tell ya.

Went biking with my bro on wed. He mountain bikes a lot but no road so he got my dad's old bike and it was one of the few times in my life I could beat him at endurance.. he is Mr. Healthy.... of course now he is going to road more so I guess it is only a matter of time...... sigh... hahhhaa

Speaking of cycling... the wifey comes up to me on the computer and says "what are you looking at - porn? I said no - road bikes... she said "I would feel better if you were looking at porn....." yes something is wrong with me when I would rather look at bikes

Now that is SEXY!!!!!!!

The Merc has seen the return of two former BA's .. not sure if you know them.. Wendy Banuelos (now Luge) and Kathy Tabbers... we are slowly getting the old crew back.... They decided to have an IT picnic thing at the park across the street - I, Carrie, Brad and a few others said NO WAY. Originally there was to be a talent show which is why I said no in the first place but that fell through and they did some other stuff.. Not going to make me happier with a BBQ lunch in super humidity.... I missed nothing.... Had more fun with my friends.........

Went and saw Tropic Thunder and HOLY CRAP!!!! This is a must see!!!! It can be crude for you sensitive types but dammit all to hell - awesome....!!!!!!!!

Today is Maddie's big 12 birthday!!!! Got some Starbucks in the morning and met the family for dinner at the Old Spaghetti Factory for dinner. She loves that place.

45.9 miles

Mission accomplished!! DK and I rode 46 miles this morning - about 2:40 and averaged about 18 miles an hour. I gotta say it was freakin work!!! The wifey was surprised I was back so soon!! We got lucky about 5.5 miles from the beach a group of other riders who were drafting off us passed us and we go into a pack of about 7 of us - with us drafting them we averaged about 23 MPH for that last 5.5 getting to the beach. I must say we were stoked on the time an speed and tired as hell!! DK has really gotten going (he is only 28) so I am not sure how much longer my old body can hang with him..... hahahahhaa - it is fun to have a riding partner where you can push each other but that young whippersnapper is gonna leave me behind next summer!!

BTW: Newport was clear and beautiful when we got there... a nice 20 minute break with clear skies and ocean was really nice.

Had a baby shower for an ex-merc employee (D- Nasty) and got to enjoy the company of the Wrider and her hubby, Audio and his wife and Your Mom for a few hours. It was great to see all of you - it has been a long time!!!!

That is really it. Pretty bad I know. Lets see - pop's turned 74 on Monday, my mom's turns 66 today, baby shower on sat.. and Maddie's 12th on the 16th.. . That all adds up to a lot of money leaving my wallet... j/k -

DK and I plan on doing the beach and back this Sunday morning.. he has a bike computer so we estimate the ride to be 44 miles - no sweat!!! hahahahahaha

2 weeks off.. . and man did I need it. It has been years since I have taken two weeks in a row off....the first week you just get work out of your system... then you can relax on the second week.

I am feeling better - about 90%... it turns out I do have some allergies.. my mom an bro have them - just took me time to grow into them and I found out - my own research - that a hiatal hernia can affect your respiratory system so I think I just got the big triple whammy last week. Seems I should not have caffeine, chocolate, peppermint,, onions, tomato based products (maaannn!!!) etc. All of these things can cause me issues so time to adjust the diet again... GO BLAND or GO HOME is the new motto!!! Hopefully in a week the lungs will be fully back and I can crank out more long rides.

Nothing big on the vacation but I did relax this week. Read, played video games, took the girls to the movies, bowling.. a couple of 20 miles bike rides and went with me mum and girls to the Getty Museum. I love the Getty - so worth it since it is free!!! hahahaha

Well, I got my prescription for my respitory stuff and that aggrevated my hiatal hernia so I had to get stuff for that.. then went to the beach with the kids and in my rush, forgot to sunscreen my feet.. they are roasted toasted and swollen... not a cool week so far..... next week has to be better!!!!

Hello from the land of vacation and lung infections

That is right - first few days on vacation and I have some form of lung thing. Went riding on Friday and it was bad - could not breathe - so I am getting my prescription today... not the way I wanted to start my vacation. i was planning to ride every day - not this week - big bummer. But at least I am not at work - I needed that really bad. So I am just chilling with the kids etc. Trying to figure out something to do not to expensive - this has been a bad bill year.

We had an IT townhall meeting and it was a 3 hour waste of time - they ran it like the tonight show.... with 80% of the "jokes" just lame.. coulda got more work done in the office.. oh well - they made themselves happy I guess.

Not much else going on - hope my breathing gets better soon and hit the trail for some miles..

Well, it finally happened - the re-org IT. Of course I did not get promoted.... but I have a new super and a new BA manager. For you ex-Merc - Ernie is my super and Carolinda is my BA manager. OH, it appears two others got promoted to supervisor - one very deserving - Nicole and one not - name deleted..

On one hand I don't care but on the other... what more can I do...... very disheartening.. Oh well, gonna go on vacation and then see how I feel when I come back and after I tell the new BA mgr how I am not happy about this...

I like the people I work with on a daily basis and I think we will be learning some new stuff... but...... who knows.. I do value my job security. I for sure am going to push back on the new bosses to deal with the crap....

Now that stupid Hands Free cell phone law....... hate it... The best part is it is not based on any science or study cause if they cared, they would have read that it is not phone that is the problem, it is the conversation itself.. so by allowing more conversation to occur with hands free devices they may be making the problem worse. Stupid politicians trying to "save the people".. this is just as bad as all those "for the children" crap they pass. That is a whole nother story but I hate all those laws that are trying to force me to be the parent "they like" I can take care of my own kids - I never vote for those laws but I always lose.

The cell phone is also way down the list on distractions so go ahead - get your hands free device and talk away while you shave, do your make up and eat all at the same time cause that is legal....

Hard work and the stars align...

ohh not for me... oh no but I will get to that in a bit.

First, rollout is still going OK - no one is freaking out, some compliments, etc.. and of course - for those of us who did the hard work - nothing... well not nothing - we got to leave early and get food and drink and games at Dave and Busters.. Now for the Merc.. this is a big deal so I'll take. We still had to buy our own alcohol but hey.... the most I ever got for this type of work. What I am hearing and is par for the course is those who are taking the applause etc.. Senior mgmt who were not here when it started or did not really work on it. Typical corporate crap I am sure - oh well - there are those of us who take personal pride and know we made it happen.

Put in over 60 miles on the bike this week. Feeling really good now.

Now about the title. I do not talk about my family that much - not the wife and kids but brother or sisters so this one is for and about my brother. I'll do my best to keep it short..hahhaha just like Wrider.

I love motocross - my bro loves it more. He has never stopped riding since he was 9. Well as the years pass and stuff he finally decided it was now or never to race a once a year race at Mammoth Mountain. He knew it would take time, effort and of course - MONEY!!! Now he has raced local races before and even won some desert races in the amateur class he runs but he never won a motocross race. So about 4 months ago he begins to train (mammoth is high altitude) working out, mountain biking, total change in diet (massively healthy) and lots of riding and racing the 40+ novice class locally (that is where the money comes in - a lot of gas) He really pushed himself for 4 months - won one local race to get ready.

Mammoth is open to the country so as long as you can register and pay - you can race so there are lots of good riders from all around in every class - even his - 40+ Vet Novice and Mammoth is a very rough track - no changes from the amateur to pros - they all ride the same track.

His best friend works for Suzuki racing so he gets to pit with him and a motocross legend - John Dowd - who is great friends with my bro's friend.

Friday - just a practice day
Saturday Qualifier - bad start in qualifier - goes from 22nd to 6th and makes it to the final race
Saturday Final - bad start again - goes from the 20's up to 3rd in about 5 laps - see first and second - a goggle tear off sticks during a jump and pulls his goggles half off - by the time he fixes it - he is in 6th and moves to 4th at the end.

He is bummed cause he knows he should have won but happy cause he did so well

Sunday Qualifier - bad start - in the 20's (notice a pattern here hahahaha) and moves up to 6th again and makes it to the final race

Sunday Final - before this, the legend John Dowd ask my bro how it went and he said fine but my starts suck. John had watched him and gave him "the tip" for starts at Mammoth
Gate drops - my bro takes john's advice and holeshots and leads out of the first turn. Now he thinks - cool if I can get one lap in - awesome. End of lap one he is still leading - hears the other guys but no real challenge so he says - well one more lap, and if they pass me, they pass me. End of lap two - still in the lead. Now he just says - I am just gonna race my race and puts his head down. Finally around lap 5 he sees some friends cheering him and giving him the arm movement indicating "big lead" so he decides to check. They have about a 1000 foot climb up and down section and he gets to the top turns and looks at the other side and sees NO ONE!!!! He cannot even see second place that guy is so far behind. He has about a minute lead after 5 of 7 laps. It really hits him at this point and he feels like his favorite rider Ricky Carmichael when you have huge lead and a couple laps to go. So now he can relax and enjoy the final laps.

He cross the finish line all alone to the checkered flag, gets high fived by all the fans along the fence and gets to go the top step of the podium for his trophy.. and all along the guy who announces Supercross was announcing the races so his daughter could hear the whole time how DAD was was kicking everyone's butt!!!! His friend Cole hugged him, John Dowd was stoked for him and my bro said it was the greatest week of his life!!!

So like my title says - he put in a lot of hard work and for 30 minutes that Sunday, all his stars aligned and gave him his dream.

I am totally happy for and proud of him.

Finally, the two week early shift is done.. I am tired but it was kinda fun... had the right people coming in with me so we had a good time. The NY rollout has gone better than I expected - there will always be issues but not to bad (knock on wood) I just hope it keeps going...

Well what has happened in the last two weeks....

Sis in Law had her back surgery - it went really well and she is out of the hospital now and they even fixed some old scoliosis issues .... she should be better than new in a few month

DK and I have gone on three rides.. he is doing better than I thought which is real good for him but this old man can and has shown him who is boss on the trail...... hahahahhahaa GO OLD PEOPLE!!!!!

The morning shift

Well week one of the morning shift is in the books. The pilot release is going fairly well. We do have some issues but we have been able to correct a lot of things.. config issues, tables missing data - not migrated to production environment and some code issues but overall a good pilot release and some really good agent feedback which is nice. We have more things we had to delay so the next few months of releases should only make it better.

Of course we have our jackass PM's who still don't know shit and are trying to now look good with their senior mgmt reporting - e-mails that we are not included on..... one in particular. - your old favorite audio - got put in her place this morning in a meeting - as she tried to explain herself she was told to "stop it - dont say anything else." she has given bad info to her boss - and only bad cause she does not understand anything technical - including this project. We even got an apology from said boss.... hate her!!!!!

For the few of us that get in early, log in - check what is going on , and watch one or two episodes of "The IT Crowd" as we work... If you have not seen this show (BBC) by all means... find it... one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. Go to You tube and search it - lots of clips!!!

Monday morning our software rolls out to our first set of agents in NY. I think it will go OK. We always wish for more time and resources.. but you know how it goes.

Today is yard/house day.. then tomorrow ride by bike into work for dry run activities - then ride around Brea with DK after (and I hope to kill him on his second ride ever!! hahahha) Then it is 5 am to 1 for the next two weeks. Damn 3 hour time difference...

1. While partaking in more dental suffering today (albeit less than it has been) the wifey was watching a program about how crappy dental insurance is. In 1960 or 1965 a $1000 annual cap was instituted - guess what.. it is now 2008 and that cap has NEVER increased. You heard me.... NEVER. Even though cost have quadrupled plus since then, coverage has never increased in 40 plus years... I always wondered how it was cheaper to have a kid than have a root canal. Well know you know...

Well for all you former and maybe current Merc. folks.. Mr. Cabrera has resigned. His last day is Thursday. I think he has 15 years in so it will be a big loss for the company and us as friends but we all understand why he us leaving don't we Merc folk?? hahahahaha

What else.. well I had a Merc employee who opened his mouse pad with the gel wrist pad and he was surprised that it was like a solid type of gel.. and I asked him what did he think is was... he then instant messaged me he thought it would be like a boob implant gel... hahahahhahaaa I loved that.

Madison had her violin recital tonight - and this one she cannot hide - just her up there doing a solo and she gets better every time I hear her.. I am very impressed.. She was by far the best of the kids playing until the last kid who was ungodly on a piano for his age.... yes he was asian........

I was perusing e-bay looking at mountain bikes I cannot afford but came across this statement about the bike:

My littlest Jillian turns the big 7 today. Of course she is hyped up!! We went and saw Prince Caspian yesterday at her request and it was excellent. Then she slept on the couch (she loves that) and donuts and presents this morning.... and who knows what the rest of the day will bring. Her big party is not till the 31st. We have not had a real party for her in a few years and she wanted a Pump It Up party really bad and that was as soon as we could book it.

Had a really good ride this morning- have not felt this good on a bike in a while - still not where I was last sept/oct but well on my way.

Well we went to the JPL Open House this Sunday and it was really cool - in a total geeky way. They have versions of Mars rovers, etc. and even a small rover that they run over the kids. Maddy was down for that, Jilly - big chicken!!

What was our favorite part was seeing the real life Deep Space Mission Control. That room with all the monitors and crap you see -that is what you get to see - it would be very cool to work down in that room. Overall, just a really cool look at what these super smart people do!! Well worth it. It is only once a year so you all have to wait till next year.

Where are the photos you say?? Well , the memory was full so I swapped it out for my other memory stick - get there line up the first shot and lo and behold.. this one is full too.. . ughhh - my lazy ass has not downloaded the photos from whenever.

not really... so I had my wisdom plus one teeth removed Sat. morning. Gotta say - like hte knocked out stuff - they did not even tell me - I was laying there one minute and waking up done the next. My whole mouth hurt for a few hours but now it is just down to the lower right - this one was impacted and f does it hurt - even if I open my mouth just a little to wide (easy on the jokes there...)

I do have Vicodin but I dont get the great feeling you all do - most of the pain is gone but not all..

Well that is it for now - off to more meals of Cream O Wheat and Mashed Potatoes!

So as you know I did go to the "Theater/Opera" and what I can tell you is the wifey LOVED it and was happy so that is all that counts. I can tell you I was all excited when there was this flash of light from the stage and the lights went on - Cool it's over I said - No it's intermission said the wifey - nothing more soul crushing..... except that fact that I am on antibiotics soooo NO BEER!!! UGHHHH!!!

In other more positive news - if all goes as planned I will get the wisdom teeth out on Sat. The only thing that worries me is I have never been put under - EVER!! I thank my lucky stars to get to my age and never have to be put under but a little scary for me none-the-less. I will live though.

Work is work..... nothing new there - and that is a good thing.

What did I cave in on you say..... I am going to suffer through the crap that is Phantom of the Opera tonight. Wifey has wanted to go for ages so being the awesome guy that I am.... i bought tickets. I am soooooo not looking forward to this. Don't tell me I will like it or it is better than you think.. I have heard snippets of songs and luckily it stopped before i plunged the knife into my chest.

For you ex merc..... rumor of hte re-org leaves me where I am but...... reporting to the current QS super (who should not be in that job) again...... I am not happy about that and I will tell the new overall mgr guy that I am not happy and he should not be my boss. I will respect it but I want him to know that.... keep them on their toes.

My dental life SUCKS!! I hate hate hate the dentist but my broken tooth went viral.... and upon further review I have to have my wisdom and due to some teeth have fillings they say are way to large thus weakening my teeth, two of my back teeth have cracked. There is money down the drain but freakin have to do it... and only one small cavity... I guess for dental I go big or go home.

Well, what to say.... wifey and I made 13 years of matrimony this week.... not to shabby.

More shake ups at work coming - more new people and what they want - find out Friday - I don't care much anymore and is it really gonna affect me ... ehhhhh

Madison played her Honors Orchestra on Monday gig on Monday - it was really cool - the video is huge so don't think I can upload it anywhere "for free". They did good and I was proud.

Let's support the proposed repeal of special order 40. Cops should always ask citizenship when the arrest people... then deport once they are out of jail. Sadly it will take this non-white couple to get it through without the stupid calls of "racism" that we white folk would get.

On Vacation

Wrider... that is why I have not been posting. Enjoying a few days (week actually) of total relaxation. Well here goes my super long Wrider type post:

Got a lot of work done on Saturday and Sunday (lawns, wash both cars, oil change, etc) then off with some neighbors to Santa Ynez valley for some wine tasting.

Now of course, I did not wine taste (well I took a few sips of the swill) as I cannot stand wine and still don't but it was so beautiful up there. On Monday, we drove up and took the back way into Solvang so that we can stop at a winery called Gainey that our friends are members of. We got to go back to this room, past the wine barrels, for members only and that was cool. I do gotta say for me, the dark oak, deep leather chairs, etc. made me want a scotch and a cigar rather than wine but it was still very nice. We also past a small airport out there and someone was flying their P-51 which was bitchin. One of my favorite fighter planes ever.

From there we went through Solvang and to our kick ass Best Western in Buelton right next to Anderson's Pea Soup. Pool, Jacuzzi.. and about $70 a night... I love it!!!!

Kids loved the pool (ours and theirs - thank god they are all girls and all friends) and we adults loved the jacuzzi. If I had a jacuzzi I would never leave it..

Got up on Tuesday morning - free breakfast (woohoo) and off to more wineries. First stop was called Babcock (hahaha). This was the first winery our friends went to together 27 years ago so I thought that was cool. Next was off to Melville - very beautiful building (see building in photos - link below) After this, the wifey is not only buzzed but now seriously liking wine. UGHHH.. this is gonna cost me - damn wine people!! hahaha

Now we are off to another winery called LaFond. I loved this one as it was tucked away in a small valley on Santa Rosa Road which in many places barely fits one car. It was green quiet and remote and this is where we had our nice picnic lunch. Wine, cheese, crackers, meats, fruit etc. I felt like a yuppie I tell you but it was so good and relaxing and as our friend puts it "bucolic". (see picnic photos)

There was also a lot of bike riders - gonna bring the bike next year - such an awesome place to ride.

Now we were off to the miniature horse farm. Kids loved this. Wrider, check out the photo of the baby mini - not even two week old and this girl was running and bucking etc. you would have loved it!!!

Finally - off to the Lavender Farm. SOOOOOO relaxing. I am telling you - live there and no need to ever get stoned.... you are beyond mellow.

Back to the hotel, more swimming and jacuzzi - a few beers at Firestone Brewery (way overpriced - not worth it) and some sleep.

On Wed. we did a little walk around Solvang then home. We all had a great and relaxing time..

Strange things seem afoot. Not sure but get the feeling some bombs will drop.. Our project leader guy (#2) is being removed from the project entirely - and now I heard they already hired a replacement - another person from the outside... and that is what sucks - all new hires are from the outside and mostly mortgage... a-holes could destroyed their own industry - now ours too.... nah not that bad but much uneasiness... I don't like it....

It was "raise" time at the Merc and although in Merc terms my raise was good - I am not happy. I worked way harder on more difficult things and more hours than the year before yet my raise % was less..... go figure... and the worse part which I may actually complain about to HR.. I still have not gotten my review. Got my raise % and it is on my check and all without the actual review... WTF?? It just removed the point of the review. How can I argue my points and try to negotiate more (or maybe a g-damn promotion) before anything is final. Really stupid.... but I will bring up all this when I actually have my review....it should be interesting.

I also know (cause they told me) other people got higher %'s than me yet more than once by different people I have been told I am the most important person on the project... yet no where is this reflected. I love having the respect of my co-workers, including many consultants and I stay late etc. as I take pride in my work but that will only go so far. I do admit I do balance this out with a 7 mile drive and the knowledge I aint gettin fired.. but still......Plus due to "sources" I do know some complete idiots who are making way more than me (our jack-ass project managers.) and that just eats at ya a little. We could do their job but they could never do mine or developers yet they make more.... how to address this is difficult.

On the good front, AVman was in a big dev team meeting with our overall boss and he and my favorite brit developer let it fly in the meeting - which is awesome. Best part... they are talking about creating BSA's which as I mentioned in another blog is a more technical job - and someone said -"no one in the company is doing anything like a BSA right now" and AVman said -" not true - BIRDMAN (not my real name. hahahha) does" and the brit backed him up.. It's nice to have a good friend like that !!!!!

First -WELCOME BACK WRIDER!!! we missed ya!!!

OK, well we got (more on this) a 3 day weekend - no work at all and man did I need it. I was the walking dead - always tired, my mind just not wanting to think... mental tiredness sucks..... I would rather be physically tired. Seems what we have been saying all along (delay the project - push back the go-live date) was finally realized by the PMO.... only months to late. So now while they all eat chit (at least in my mind) we get to slow down a bit.

Now, word got out that other departments were getting a 3 days weekend.. QA heard on Wed. Night... and my QA buddies of course tell me. So we wait on Thurs. for our turn. Dev comes out - they get the same deal.. still nothing for us few BA's. Finally about 3:30 Thursday, we get the come to my office call.. COOL!! so we get in- talk about the date and he (our current super...not a BA) say no weekends for a little while so take it off... and that was it..... nothing... so one BA then says "long weekend??"".. . to which he says,, "Well other teams are taking off tomorrow so we can explore that.." Can you believe it ... he was not going to say anything or offer it to us unless we brought it up... I of course said "OH LET'S EXPLORE!""" I like my super but he lost some respect with me with that move.

So mowed the lawns. cleaned the house, bike ride with the girls, helped wifey move some work stuff as they are moving to a bigger place... and watched a lot of FREE Showtime... Direct TV free movie weekend... love that shit!!! I also got some sleep... it was needed. Best part. with the date pushed, I am still maxed out on vacation hours (200) and they owe me three comp days for working a holiday and missing my vacation last month. (I was maxed out and they asked me to work.... in return for comp days in the future) so I am seeing a week off this month... that will be dealt with tomorrow.....

Was cruzing the net for news of the new Disturbed. They has a mini-view with them in Guitar World so I thought I would see if anything leaked - nope but went to Amazon and saw that in the next month or so new Counting Crows and new REM... and ........Amazon has mini videos of new songs by both... that was cool - did not know they had. Check out your bands and see what is there.

Bonuses sucked this year.... I will still take it but when you get a really good bonus one year and not the next you become an ungrateful bastard I swear! ahahahhaha

Finally, the new FLOGGING MOLLY (click to link to their site) came out. I am a big fan of their stuff.. Irish folk/punk/pub music.. just kicks ass and makes you want to down a few pints! Will be getting it my next trip to Best Buy.. I say you cannot go wrong - impossible to not like.... go for it!!

That has been my existence.... working on day 10 in a row and if you look at it... I will have about 2 days off in about 20 - totally blows......

Let's see - I hate most of QA... jackasses don't know chit...... I hate most of the PMO - jackasses really don't know chit... sorry audio... but your lady over in the PMO sucks balls and not in a good way.... waste of money......wish I could just land a solid left (cause I am a lefty all you tards out there...:-)

I wish you were still there audio... the builds sucked for a while - we finally got a good guy and it has gotten better... for the rest of the CM stuff.. don't know but be thankful........

other works news.,. they finally hired a ba/bsa manager.. they will be splitting up the group into business analyst's who do mostly true business and project narratives and then business systems analyst's who will be more IT and do the use cases , sequence diagrams and maybe some data modeling... I will pick the BSA route if forced to choose - more challenging..... I guess I am not ready to get past the stress if IT just yet.....it's like a drug and I am smokin it hard.....hahahaha

For go-live and the week after - I as usual - get asked to do the 4 am to noon shift. (NY users) of course I do i but I will be with DK (developer) and Robbin (QA) so we will have some fun I am sure

Watched 30 Days of Night ... kicked ass and took Maddy to see Jumper.... decent flick for what it is....of course I would jump into the showers of hot women.....and yes, the women would actually be in the shower... hhahahha

Not much goin on still but work... third almost 60 hour week in a row and third saturday in a row.. plus I am "on call" for Sunday and Monday....yeah me!!!! But I did get a free BRC with chicken from charo chicken so that makes is all worth it....

Basically - I am not riding, drinking way to much coffee and beer which is getting my stomach all riled up and sleeping like crap.. Nothing like stress and non-overtime overtime......

Found out not only did my oldest make Honors Orchestra for the district, she is violin - first chair.. this is th top spot for violinsist.. She is not hthe only one but cool she made it.

I am glad the writer's strike is over.. need my shows. See how unions ruin everything.... can you imagine Merc IT on strike..hahahahahaha

Watched Gone Baby Gone last night. FREAKIN AWESOME!!! Same guy who wrote Mystic River wrote this and both movies are excellent - I highly recommend!!!

what is this you say?? well let me tell ya. Went for a bike ride today and I actually felt OK and did not have the nasal problems as bad as I have been having for the past few months. ( I am now wearing a breathe right strip and man does it work) I tested to see how it would be to ride to work and it was not bad at all - when it warms up I think I will do it. Anyways, I was riding all around and came to an intersection and hit the switch to cross. Now I do clip in and I only unclipped one pedal and as I went to turn my bike my unclipped foot got stuck under the pedal and TIMBER!!! down I went. Right on a big intersection. Not only does that suck but I really hurt my wrist trying to break the fall. I know I would have laughed at me!!!

It was a hell of a week at sea sir!!! almost 60 hours and not all good hours I can tell you and I am looking at more this week.

I think January is a good month for me with new music. Last January - Silversun Pickups. This January - Editors. I picked up their CD and man I cannot stop listening to it. I love new music and I had heard nothing of quality in a long time so I am stoked on the find.

A2 on Saturday night was great. IT was a throw back race to 1986 in which the "greatest supercross race" of all time occurred. They matched the old track style as much as they could etc. The old retro gear was pretty cool and the racing was great.

Howdy, as you can see a new logo for 2008. That is just a start and I will do some more changes as time goes on - fresh year needs a fresh lookin blog.

Well, I am off for two days. Maxed out on the vacation hours - 200 - so I had to take some time off. It is needed - work or should I say this project is getting crazier. We are not going to make our deadline and it seems the powers that be finally got wise and are going to push the date - not enough in my opinion but I'll take what they give. I have been given so much to do and to solve that my workload is now being listed as an issue or risk in QA meetings.. not sure if that is good or bad. Good because they have faith in my abilities to get things solved and done but bad cause I am getting tired and turn-around times are not fast enough.. I just do my job and have fun when I can and let mgmt. worry about that crap.

I do take pride in the fact they rescheduled some meetings once they found out I was going to out - just so I can be there. As many Merc. people know - there is not much in the way of kudos you get so I take small things like this as my positives and kudos that I am doing a good job and am valued.

You are missing out on some good times Audio!!!! Come back!!!!!

The contractor who sits in front of me came back from Europe and brought me some KICK ASS chocolates from Switzerland. Damn they were good. I thought that was really cool of her. Kids and and wifey enjoyed as well.

Supercross at Angel Stadium this sat. This is the family outing... me and the girls, my bro and his daughter, my sister's girls and maybe my sister or bro-in-law. Plus....... Unkie Avman is going too.. hahahah - my girls really like AVman and I think it is cool. Did I tell you the 6 year old is way to good at Connect 4 and has beat all of us (including AVman) straight up. Here normal comment to me before we play: BRING IT ON OLD MAN!!!!! - gotta love her.

Finally back to the title of the blog. My favorite show - Life on Mars - on BBCA. I watched Tuesday episode and it was followed with "make sure to watch next week's SERIES FINALE". WTF???? It has only been on for two years.... so I check the web site and it is true. It also appears that it was over a year ago in Britain and the shows run later on BBCA. Damn it all man!! At least I found out many of the characters are going to a new version of the show called Ashes to Ashes. Where Life was a cop who went back to 1973, this time a female cop goes back to 1981. The show is done so well with all the period stuff, etc.. No idea when we will get it on BBCA but not soon enough for me.

Now who can tell me what is the common link between Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes... hint.. what connects those show titles?

Hey all, first post of the new year and not much happening. Gotta start riding again - damn pumpkin bread weight!!!!

I need to get a light for my bike - went tonight in the dark and that was an adventure - and man was it cold - I swear I froze my sinus passages. Just a few miles to get the legs going again.

Maddy is off to Outdoor Ed. (6th grade camp) and she is excited. She is in a bunk with her best bud so I know she will have a blast. Funny thing about 6th grade camp - my elementary school did not have it - I did not hear of it till junior high and I was like - "what the hell are you people talking about?" I had no clue it existed. Yes it was an OC school - down in the BP - guess our schools were cheap and not like my dad would have spent the cash for us to go anyways......

Work is Work - gonna meet up wit "Your Mom" for lunch on Thursday. I think her days of blogging are done. Speaking of which - I am gonna change up the blog real soon here so it will be under construction for a while.

So what is new in the hood gangsta's?? Not much here - just getting ready for x-mas. Took last wed. off and the wifey and I got about 80% of all the shopping done - now that is the way to do it.

The in-laws made it to Fort Lewis, WA. Chris got all new gear etc.. then the "you will be going overseas in 2008". I hope something changes before he goes or he gets a decent area. No qualms about it from him, he knew going in.

Can I say I am hating the cold weather... can't get any rides in - it is sooooo damn cold in the morning.. and then house, lawns, family for the holidays... plus work... just no time I tell ya - gonna try to hit the new year good if I can.

Not much going on. Just finished three day of training (development style thank god) of IBM's Web Content Management and it can a lot of things but man is there a lot to it. It really takes a team of BA's, Development and Marketing to get this thing setup, configured ,etc.. To implement this is a project in of itself but of course the Merc just throws it in.....

For those of you who do not know what that is, it would be the program non-technical people can use to publish web content on their own - no IT interference needed. (once it is set up of course)

I am so pissed about all the politicians plan to bail out all the jackasses who took the risk with their mortgages, etc. and are losing. The whole freeze on interest rates blows!!! The wifey and I did not buy more house than we could afford, nor did we get an adjustable and try to play the market with a plan to refi when things got tough, etc.... NOPE we bought honestly and within our budget.. so what do we get for doing the right thing (AGAIN!!!) the chance to bail out the morons... I am so sick of this kind of government crap.. Do the right, smart and safe thing - you get nothing but be an idiot and get bailed out by the govt.. at our expense. They are now forcing rules onto the market in the name of "get me elected" "improve my ratings" politics and that is shit. The market will correct no matter what - they are just delaying it and who knows what the long term impact will be.

Can you tell I hate this?? hahahahaha

I saw a beat up old Neon the other night... and the j-ass had hydraulics on it!!

There was a documentary I saw on Sundance or IFC the other night about the MPAA. Very cool. Did you know the movie raters are (or were..ahahaha) a secret. No one knew who they were. Also, there is an appeal process if you don't like your rating and guess what.. not only do you not know who they are (they do now!! hahah) there is a representative from the Catholic and Lutheran churches present. Can't believe it's here.. man this has been a fast year.

I finished my book "Ghost Wars" and what an eye opener into the whole islamofasict uprising, the CIA, state department, presidents, etc. The decisions that had to be made (right and wrong for all) are not easy and crazy. It's so easy for people to say screw Saudi Arabia, it's only because they are friends of the Bushes (side note: Clinton as a good friend of the head of their intelligence service and accepted a $20 million donation to the U of Arkansas.. ) but they ignore so many aspects of what politicians, governments etc. have to deal with. I think Pakistan has been worse to us then the Saudi's. If you get a chance , read it. I think it helps put so many things in a different perspective.. the consequences of doing and NOT doing...

Now on to some fun Christmas stuff.

Dark is the night

but good lights on a mountain bile make it Bad Ass!!! Tonight I went on my first night mountain bike ride and I freakin loved it. Scary, tiring, fast, etc... I used to mountain bike the Fullerton loop when I first got married but after the first kid is dropped off so I have not really mountain biked in about 9 years.

My bro rides with a guy he used to work with that I also know so he loaned me his old bike (still kick ass - full suspension and disk brakes, etc.) so off we all went tonight. Now you all know I rode bike but let me tell you, we did an 11 1/2 mile loop and I swear half of it was hill climbs.. it kicked my ass!!! I actually walked up a couple of the climbs and my lungs were burning good ( I am a little congested) There are no real hills in my road biking and you can get your body into a rhythm. I also took a good digger... really cool but rough section and all you can see is what your bike lights lite up and what looked like a good path was not and hit the ground.. Some good scrapes but I will live.

I gotta say the best part is going through the tight wooded tree sections - make all decisions (at least for me as I don't know the trail anymore - all new) at the last second based on what you can see (any my bro telling me when some harder stuff was coming up) a great rush!!!

I will be doing this again - he offered the bike to me any time I want to go with them which is way cool of him. Hopefully on the road bike ride we are planning I can hold my own as I sucked it up and sucked air on this ride!! hahahaha

Holiday is over

That was a fast f'in four days... I am tellin ya. But at least it was a good one. Thanksgiving was at our house and it went really well. No stress, good food, no arguments ,etc.... everyone behaved and it was a good relaxing time. Our nephew spent the night on Thursday - the girls love having him over and they are truly his best friends. That is going to be the hard part about them shipping up to Washington in a couple of weeks. They are all going to miss each other. Maybe I can have her get a blog...not a bad way to keep in touch.

On Friday night had a cool date with the AVman - we went and saw "Control" the movie about Ian Curtis of Joy Division based on the book by his widow. If you don't really know the band then it might not be a good movie but for those of us who have followed them forever (since I Was about 16) it was a great insight into him and his life. Brought some new perspective to his lyrics. I gotta say the actor they got to play him looks so much like him it is freaky.

Got a ride in today and man, I don't know what it is but once on the trail I am clogging up like a drain full of women's hair. I am not getting enough oxygen and it is making my rides more difficult. I will persevere though. I am supposed to go on a night mountain biking ride on Tuesday with the Bro. I am really looking forward to that.

Man what a week. I have not had this stressful of a week in a long time. As projects move closer and closer to the due date people start to get stressed and many do not handle it well. When this happens they tend to involve you and etc..... you know the drill. So who caused me stress.. dumbass QA (most not all) who are "testing professionals" but don't know squat about insurance etc... but act like they do and want everything from you ASAP. F them.. PM's (project managers) these are those highly paid dipshits who don't understand technology and whose only job appears to be bothering the people who actually do the work. As a project progresses the complexity of the errors goes up and to watch them not be able to follow a discussion in a meeting they called to resolve an issue gets really annoying (we know what one of them makes and it's about 20k more than me and in no way does this person deserve it) Couple that with a lot of hours and booooooo!!!

On the good side, some of the developers from the other building moved over (AVman is not there......yet..) and this guy is Andy from the Office - but a more tech/nerd version. At first I thought he was the guy from Seinfeld who was the crappy bookie that Jerry accidentally broke his thumbs as he looks like that guy but here is what makes him And:

1. Brought in the cookie dough stuff for those who purchased and once he found out what it was said "Dude... we could totally mow through that right now!! Totally mow through it.

Was leaving Fry's today and saw a over 16 kid riding his razor scooter to Fry's. HOLY CRAP!!! I should have just run him over...done him a favor. I thought I had a low possibility of scoring with the ladies... this kid is on the negative side.....I was cracking up.

Away for a while again.. by the time I get home from work and kids and stuff... just have not even turned on the computer for the last few days hardly.

I gotta get this out of the way: Mama - so sorry about the Walk and Donations. I kept meaning to donate but my mind seemed to keep forgetting. No excuses though - I'm sorry.

Work is becoming very very busy - deep into development for the first release and starting development on the second and all the change requests that come along with it plus document updates etc... I am gettin tired.

I hate the time change. Since it happened I have not come home with any light. I have been using the bicycle trainer but it is a mental challenge for me - the idea of not moving while peddling is killing me but I will conquer and survive and be a bad ass on the trail come next summer. (yeah right!! hahahaha)

Although work is tough, me, DK, and Robb (the chick who we think is really a man... hahaha) are having some IM fun for sure. Funny story. We have a really cool Indian developer - he is an employee and he is cool with our jokes. So the other day he is jabbered by DK who tells him "tell Robb you have a kong dong. Of course this means nothing to him. What we did not expect is for him to get up from his desk and walk towards us and from about 15 feet away say out loud in the room "Who is kong dong?" We were cracking up while telling him to shut up so we don't get fired.... good times.

It was a long week and weekend. Went for a ride on Friday and it was still ashy in the air - yuuck. Went Saturday in the afternoon - much better., I got a new bike helmet and man am I happy. My old one was purchased in 1995 before my oldest was born and it actually hurt my head. I was using duct tape to help the sore spots.. Damn I am a cheap bastard, I should have bought one earlier.

Went to Haggoween on Saturday night and can you believe it - I drove home - I had four beers total the whole night - I had more water than beer.. what is becoming of me??? hahaha wifey did a jaegerbomb and loved and wanted to do more - so I obliged - she deserves to get her drink on - she rarely does. I must say it was an experience to watch all those drunk people and not be one of them.. good times for sure!!!!

By the way - Audio and his wife rocked the costumes - they were Sunny and Cher!!! and he was the sunny who hit the tree skiing!!!!

The in-laws gave us their old TV - it is a 60 inch behemoth!!! I think we are going to go blind!! The largest TV we have ever owned is like 32 inches with the rounded glass (you did not know they made those anymore did ya!!) It is way cool - but an adjustment for sure.

The other in-laws got their base reassignment - off to Fort Lewis Washington. It is supposed to be a great base and it will be good for my nephew with his Asperberger's as they have better schooling for him and better medical care for sis-in-law with her back (she has a rod from scoliosis and she has missing cartilage in some vertebrae). The only draw back is those stationed at Fort Irwin where they are do not ship overseas - Fort Lewis does. If nothing changes he will go to Iraq or Afghanistan in 6 months or so. He knew going in it was a very good possibility he would go and he is really tired doing opposing force training so he is prepared for what he needs to do. I also have the kid across the street who is in the 82nd Airborne in NC. I may have to much skin in the game real soon as they say.

It has struck my family and now times are desperate. As you can see, the devastation is total and complete.

When will the tragedy end!!! Food is scarce, water is non-existent and the children need medicine. They did not before this incident but dammit all to hell (for AVman) if they don't strangely need it now.

I am heading off to loot. Yes, I know it is wrong but I have to feed my family and get really good road and mountain bikes. I am just trying to survive.. who are you to judge me in these desperate times.... and WHERE THE HELL IS THE GOVERNMENT??????

But even during these tragic times, I can find peace and beauty in the devastation. Despite the horror of the gale...nay hurricane force winds, this birds nest is still there - as if untouched, protected by the hand of God.

Please give as much as you can so my family can make it to see another day... let us know that there is still hope in America!!!!

It has been a run of the mill week. Not a whole lot going on.

Finally got myself a new book - I read all the time but I have been slacking on a good book (at least my style of good book) and I was bored at lunch the other day so off to Border's I went. I saw some books that looked really good but dammit all to hell if hardback is like buying a car - way to expensive and I am way to cheap. Off the the History/Military/Politics section and I found a very interesting PAPERBACK to read.

Read a couple of chapters and damn if it is not interesting. So many things going on in the world that I was to young to know or things just to secret at the time to hear that have an impact on today's world. It's only been a couple of chapters but you can start to see how freakin difficult and complex international politics is..... things are just not as black and white as people want it to be.

The Office was freakin HI-LARIOUS this past Thursday.

Got a flat on my way back on the bike ride today - totally blows. I am sure I have over a 1000 miles on the tires since I put them on over a year ago - time to start looking at new one's and damn it if they ain't expensive - but then again what isn't. Gonna be on the garage later tonight gettin things fixed for a ride tomorrow morning (gotta make up what I missed today)

I totally sucked at the driving range at lunch today.. but what is new.

Did you know in India if it is your b-day - you have to buy stuff for your friends and family and not the other way around?? pretty f'ed but I did get a pumpkin scone out of it.... who knew???

Me and Girls

Well it has been just me and the girls for 5 days and it has been really nice. I think they like me again!! hahahaha - we did not do much yet had a lot of fun. The little one made a point to come lay on the bed or couch with me every night - I missed that and it was nice to get it back. They are awesome girls.

After I picked them up from school on Friday we were walking to the car and cut across the grass - it seems there was a nice hole hidden in the grass and I stepped right into it - that killed my ankle. My ankles are bad from years of skateboarding and basketball so it does not take much. The oldest made sure I laid down and rested it. Once again - awesome girls.

I did get a ride in (before the ankle incident) with my new clipped in shoes and man does it make a difference. Rode most of the time a gear higher than normal. I also picked up the stationary bike stand from pops so I can ride during the week ( in the garage probably) in winter as light is quickly disappearing and I do not want to lose what I have built up.

Hung out with pops down in the BP during the day on Saturday. Is it just me or do you wish things would not change sometimes? We went to the Weinerdog that we lived at as kids - I have not been there in 15-20 years - and the outside looked the same but I was bummed the inside was all new. I had in my mind the old wooden booths with the orange vinyl pads...this is where me and some friends first unscrewed the cap on the ketchup bottle for the next unassuming customer and it was a cop - we bolted so fast as we totally thought we were busted!!!!! I was really hoping it would be the same.....but we helped pops finish his puzzle - he does tons - even the little one found about 20 pieces.

Hung out with Mom and sis later that night for dinner - father in law today (he cannot go more than 5 days without seeing his granddaughters) nice weekend all around. Wifey comes home tomorrow and I cant wait to have her back - I sleep like crap when she is gone - not used to all that space in the bed.. hahahahaha

Got me bike shoes

Yes, I went and got them today - and no - they are not the funky hardcore road shoes, they are mountain bike shoes... and yes they clip into the pedals. AVman gave me the pedals a while ago and now I am excited and scarred to use them.

You have to buy the cleats for the shoes then screw them into the bottom of the shoe. As I ride I will have to adjust them (front and back and side to side..... 10 points for that reference). That was a little work. Then cut the knuckles getting the old pedals off - they have been on there since before I was born.

But finally all set except I could not ride - flat tire. Now the guy at the bike shop was having some fun as during our talk I let him know I have never clipped in before - he said - practice on grass. I now know exactly why. I put on the shoes - hopped on the bike holding on to the washer - clipped in - then moved my heal out to unclip and guess what.... it aint easy - you gotta put some back into it. So I keep practicing until I give the left foot a good jerk, foot does not unclip but the bike starts to go left - I lose touch with the dryer.... TIMBER!!!! right onto the garage floor. Now you know why I am skirred!!! If some a-hole on the trail gets in my way... I am gonna have to really practice unclipping myself!!!

But I am excited to see how much an improvement I get.

Did you note the sarcasm.......I hope so. Not much of a weekend - has some beers, saw Eastern Promises Friday night - kick ass flick by the way - then off to Fort Irwin on Saturday for my nephews B-day. He turned 7 on Oct 5th so we all went out there for him.

It was interesting in that I have never been on a military base before. The part I was on - base housing and stuff - seems normal, like a city but at the same time - different. It is a different world for sure.

We had his party at the base bowling alley which was packed with rotation troops ( i think that is what they are called) and I got this odd feeling I just did not fit in - could have just been me but none of the military guys who were at the party with their kids said anything more than hello... but oh well - not gonna worry much about it and besides -to many of them wear tight jeans and tuck their shirts in....sweet jesus!!!

Nephew had a great party - got his BMX bike and he was in heaven. His Aspberer's has slowed his motor skills but his was riding pretty good and he was even trying to wheelie when we made him go in the dirt!! Boys will always be boys!!!

Played Rainbow Six on XBOX 360 with my bro in law (the one in the Army) and man - real training pays off in the game world..he was kickin ass and I gotta say it was funny as we were playing pretty late into the night and having some brews and he got into the lingo - every time we cleared a room in the game he yelled "Clear" out of habit....

Got my Band of Brothers DVD set - way cool and that is about it - oh except and not only surprising but a sign of maturity,, the in-laws gave me a some cash for my b-day ($200). He got his Army bonus and he said that I have helped them so much over the years and he finally has the chance to pay me back a little and wanted me to have that. It was not even the money that impressed me - the mere fact they wanted to pay back something to us without asking......sign of growing up - I'll take the growing up over the cash any day and I am glad there is hope!! BTW - here come bike shoes for road bike - time to clip in!!!! (they will be mountain bike style shoes not the hard core road guy shoes in case you are wondering)

I thought I was going to get away with it but alas nope - my 39th birthday is this Sat but work did remember (I think wifey had something to do with it...grrr) So for all my fellow bloggers - what you can get me that will make me the most happy...get your drink on and send me topless photos of YOU!!! and by that I mean the twins, the hooters, the fun bags.... hell - I am gettin so old I aint never gonna see another pair. My cryptic situation has worked out better than I thought- the neighbors involved are not totally bothered - I am sure a little as I would expect but it has been a big relief for me.

and the damn sun is setting to fast - got back from my bike ride last night in the dark - freakin sun went down faster than a hooker making a fast 20 bucks!!!

In my best Wrideresque by leaving out all details- had a situation where I signed on to do something that I was not sure about from the start but everyone said - no big deal - just do xyz.. Well a while ago I did X and freaked me out more than most anything - but I just did not want to let people down - maybe it will grow on me, etc. Well it was coming to a head and I just told the wifey - I just can't do this.. and all my reason including the word "Creepy". Although married for 12 years, I felt leery and scarred to tell her - did not want her to be disappointed in me, etc.. I was relieved when she gave me support and understood - meant a lot to me. GO WIFEY!!!! Called the people who were the catalysts for this (I was amped up for this and they were not home so I left a message - crappy but I had to get it out) and I really hope they do not take it bad and we have some fallout. I thought about the line if they are your true friends - they will understand - I hope and pray they do - they are good people.

You know what Wrider - being vague and cryptic is pretty cool.

As I as starting my bike ride today - it dawned on me how relaxing, serene and calming my riding has become - I have really hit the point where I need it - the few blocks of stress I have seem to lift off my shoulders as I get going... it has become more than exercise for me now - and I really like that.

oh yeah - got hit by that damn bugs brother today!!! luckily a little lower so it did not hurt - freakin bastards... what is the deal???

Yes people, America is the Champions once again. We freakin dominated the Motocross of Nations this weekend!!! Not to get into to many details but there are 3 classes and 3 riders per nation and the do two motos each. They run two classes together so overall there are 6 motos done within 3 races. NOW..... there is 1 point for first, 2 for second etc. and the team with the lowest number wins (they get to drop one moto score) The lowest possible score a team can get is 7 - three firsts and two seconds.. USA had a score of 8 this year. Second place - freakin France with 34 points!! Great day to be an American I say!!!!

What is the deal with the fitted sheet? I hate the damn thing. I do not know how to fold it so it looks nice. SERIOUSLY!!! I hate the damn thing........

Yesterday was Audio's first day at his new job. Hope it all went well.

For the Mercury returnee.... for those of you who know her - Charme is coming back. Who'd a thunk it but right time, right place I guess. It will be nice to have her back.

Got hit on the lip on the bike trail last night by a giant bug - freakin hurt!!!! Lip went numb where it hit. I kinda freaked out and was squeezing my lip in case there was a stinger or something.. all the while I kept a pedal-in. MANNIN UP!!!!

FOLKS - this sunday is the 2007 MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS!!! That's right bitches.. the top motocross countries in the world are battling for world motocross supremacy. For the first time in 20 years, it is being held in America (FIM dont like our dominance to much) at Budds Creek, Maryland.

Here is some info for ya: Most wins by any nation - USA Most consecutive wins by a nation - USA and we USA has the fastest lap times in practice for all three classes.
