My Duty as a Citizen
So I had jury duty on Monday in lovely downtown Santa Ana. I have been lucky in that I have only had jury duty twice and both times at the kick ass Fullerton site so this was interesting for me.
Here is a bullet point list of my observations that I think can allow you, the reader, to get a good feel for my day:
- In order to run us through the process, they had to plug in and boot from the dead a laptop - I was so happy when I saw the OS is Windows 2000
- The guy speaking to us could not pronounce "conservatorship"
- Even better when during the film you know he has seen a million times actually pronounces it correctly
- After lunch roll call was done by one person reading the names to a room of 400 people and we just had to yell out loud - HERE
- The girl taking roll call had a real issue with pronouncing what I would call "white people" names. Never saw that before
- When I got up to get some of the provided reading materials, I set my personal mags on my seat - came back - National Geographic GONE - guy two seats behind me reading it - got that bitch back (and I was nice enough to let the guy finish reading it - I such a nice guy)
- Towards the end of the afternoon - they get everyone together to tell us they have no new information for us
- I was not at work!!!
- Saw the Ronald Reagan Federal Building - that thing is pretty cool.
GOD BLESS AMERICA

I am at home and heard this song and I love it.
Nothing Left to Lose by Mat Kearney
something’s in the air tonight
the sky's alive with a burning light
you can mark my words something's about to break
and i found myself in a bitter fight
while i've held your hand through the darkest night
don't know where your coming from but your coming soon
to a kid from oregon by way of california
all of this is more than i've ever known or seen
come on and we'll sing, like we were free
push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
come on and we'll try, one last time
i'm off of the floor one more time to find you
and here we go there's nothing left to choose
and here we go there's nothing left to lose
so i packed my car and headed east
where i felt your fire and a sweet release
there's a fire in these hills thats coming down
and i don't know much but i found you here
and i can not wait another year
don't know where your coming from but you coming soon
to a kid from oregon by way of california
all of this is more than i’ve ever known or seen
come on and we'll sing, like we were free
push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
come on and we'll try, one last time
i'm off of the floor one more time to find you
and here we go there's nothing left to choose
and here we go there's nothing left to lose
i can still hear the trains out my window
from hobart street to here in nashville
i can still smell the pomegranates grow
and i don't know how hard this wind will blow
or where we'll go
come on and we'll sing, like we were free
push the pedal down watch the world around fly by us
come on and we'll try, one last time
i'm off of the floor one more time to find you
and here we go there's nothing left to choose

Oh man! Why isn't jury duty ever like an episode of Law & Order? It's such a bumbled mess...
I LOVE THAT SONG TOO!!! Birdman... i think that is a first. :-) (and my son loves it too - he calls it one of his jams)
In all my life, despite being a registered voter and tax payer, I have NEVER been called for jury duty.
I have never heard this song but the lyrics are very cool...
Jury duty BLOWS!!!! and that song sounds really good. I'll have to have a listen. Kind of down beat for your taste though birdman.
I do have a mellow sensitive side ya know... if I dont cry at least once every 10 years it really starts to bottle up inside...
So, that one feeling you have has to be exercised or it will be gone forever?
Good thing you let it out...w/o that 1 feeling you'd be dead inside!
